Early Christmas Eve…

December 24, 2009 at 10:07 am (Christmas Spirit, Day to Day, Pictures) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

8 am Chicago time. It’s about 32 degrees and drizzling the best icy rain you can get anywhere in the midwest. I know all around us gets snow but we get rain that freezes everything in its place. It looks pretty, covering all in a transparent shell, but it is hell to walk or drive on. Still, it’s peaceful. I’m inside though. In a few hours the two day blitz starts and for my kids this year they have three days of travel…it just worked that way. They are ready. We stayed up late making food for the days to come, mock chicken legs (its a polack thing–so delicious–always tweaking the formula trying to get them to taste just like my dads–they never do), pierogis, apple slices, cookies, the usual, just like you!…so I am enjoying the silence for a few more minutes. Drinking some coffee, of course, just thinking about…how nice it all is. To be mostly healthy, mostly happy and able to enjoy the small things, not just today, but everyday. I’m not really religious or spiritual much, but I wish the same for you. Have a safe journey if you are traveling around, or a nice warm drink for me if you’re not!, and thanks for spending a few minutes with me and mine today!

Yes, it's a white tree. Hello...Polish....we like it. And it fits in our limited space! It's pretty when its lit up which you will see later today. We keep the lights on all night tonight....

Catching Pieces of Christmas Spirit…

December 24, 2009 at 9:35 am (Christmas Spirit, Day to Day, News, Pictures) (, , , , , , , , , )

This was from last Saturday morning. It was snowing, really snowing for the first time this season. And sticking. I guess north of where I live has had it already and probably doesn’t feel all cheery inside when it happens on a Tuesday. I get that. Now that school is over I am fine with whatever day it wants to snow…but this was Saturday. The kids were home and we had no where to go. They played outside and I baked cookies. Yes haters…they were oatmeal raisin and from a fund raiser (dough balls that you place on the pan—it counts if you have to put them in the oven—I still have to make sure they don’t burn up). My little mouse was running back and forth with his belly full of poison (we have a mouse—been here since Thursday—eating poison and looking cute—haven’t seen him today though—it’s probably the end for him) and I think I even had some Christmas music on the ipod. It was nice. Here’s a few pics:

Street Money Update!

December 21, 2009 at 6:15 pm (Street Money) (, , , , , , , )

Because I have to!! We been finding all kinds of money along the road….(say it with a southern accent ‘cuz its fuh-uhn!)

It’s been mostly nickels and whatnot…but on yet another glorious night of me failing with the cooking skillz, we found ourselves at the local McDonald’s where I spied with my super eye (in the parking lot. in the dark. several spaces from where we parked.) a folded up bill of unknown quantity. No one was around, no other cars either…in case you wonder…

It was five bucks!

I swear if I wasn’t so lazy I would make us all go to the mall and skulk around looking for lost money. Times are hard you know, and I hate to beg.

Anyway here’s the other money we found on various days from the last days we calculated (listed by coin to make it more interesting):

Quarters: 4 ($1.00)

Dimes: 4 (40¢)

Nickels: 2 (10¢)

Pennies: 9 (9¢)

Plus that 5 dollar bill. Grand total: $6.59

That’s not too bad. Check here for the year. Getting close to the end!!

Today is the first day of Christmas in my world

December 5, 2009 at 10:49 am (Video) (, , , , , , , )

UPDATE 12/17/09: I am finally done with this semester of school! And I am registered for January. Stress, money, stress, books, stress, start studying NOW for next semester(that’s basically what they told us today), stress…my point is that I obviously wrote this in the throes of desperation for panicked finals and four tests in a row. I am appalled at all my bad grammar and weird use of words (melee’ ?? WTF? I don’t even remember typing that word!) I never say it out loud! So strange. But I’m leaving it. For fun I thought you could read it and tell me how many errors I made! Best, most creative slap down gets a shout out and…I don’t know…something. Maybe a free vital sign check-up?!? It’s hard to give stuff away when I am here and you are wherever you are! Ok…go!

If you are like me, and I bet most of you are these days…you have divorced parents. And you have been traveling to various families for most of the holidays for most of your childhood. And then YOU got married, had kids, and got divorced, and now you have two, three, four, five….etc…MORE families to travel too during the holidays. And even if you managed to get out of a few visits in the melee’ these days, your kids haven’t. Their just starting the roller coaster of holiday family dinners and fun that defines our holiday memories and ideas. Personally, for me, my dream is to have enough money to leave Chicago the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and not come back until after New Years, to a country that doesn’t celebrate the holidays. Or at least one that has a beach and an ocean as its primary geological features. My last thoughts were the Maldive islands. Any and all are welcome to come with me. I’ll even pay. Tahiti is my second choice. Just imagine yourself in the South Pacific, water so clear you can see right to the bottom, warm breeze and temperate weather, and you are in your own bungalow high above the water, relaxing on the deck with a steaming cup of exotic coffee, planning a day that has nothing to do with snow or sweaters or candy or decorations or presents or giant dinners of ham and turkey and pie….and all your family is there with you, happy and getting along, tan and healthy and relaxed…it’s a lottery dream. Trust me, I know. So today starts Christmas with my dad’s side of the family. It’s fun, actually, but the dream remains….

Merry Christmas Everybody!

Since Stevie said it was here…

December 5, 2009 at 10:21 am (Video) (, , , , )

I better post a video that we think is funny and everybody else does too. And if you have never seen this commercial, then I say, “WTF?? You may declare yourself a better person than I, because you obviously NEVER watch TV. Congratulations on having a life!” I give you, The Geico Pothole, and junk….

And since I’m posting…

December 3, 2009 at 6:36 pm (Day to Day, News, Shameless Self Promotion, Updates) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Let this be my personal little reminder so I can bring you all the news that’s fit to print. Ha. That’s why I have my own personal web blog here, so I can put whatever I want out there and no one can tell me it’s stupid. Well, you can tell me it’s stupid but I don’t have to approve the comment.

Looking back on some of my other stuff…I have music, sushi, exercise, mysterious dish soap in a bowl on a table, quotes, words, commercials we like, Pat Tomasulo stuff, Germany, pie!…

This is turning into a grocery list. (It’s all for you sister…haha) Speaking of groceries, I was supposed to go get some—all part of the healthy eating initiative I started again—but, alas, the internet got me and it’s too late to go out and then make something. We’ll just have to get something from the fast food world. Darn. I will be running again tomorrow so it should be fine. (I ran yesterday–3 miles! I just wanted to put that out there! And I’m falling in love with hard boiled eggs again. Gross.) I also need to get to the laundry, another plan for the day since I am not going to study, but that didn’t happen either. Interesting note about the jeans I have on. I noticed that all of my pants are getting kind of snug (hence the new plan) plus, my scrub top is getting a little too scrubby and snuggy, so I start working out and I swear, my pants feel even tighter! What the?? Oh well, my son is hovering over me to finish this up because he can’t do his homework in a timely manner when that tv is on…so I better go. Sixth grade should only be done once in your life…

And last, but not least, all the way from summer…

December 3, 2009 at 5:44 pm (Day to Day, Exercise, Phone Camera, Pictures) (, , , , , , , , , , )

The pictures I took of all those cool powerlines about 4 months ago, before my life became all about the nursing program. (I’m still in it, in fact I should be reading right now–test on Monday–nutrition, of course, everything else except vitamins, so it shouldn’t be too difficult—and I am coming out to the last two weeks here. Clinical is over for now. Skills are done. Just: Test. Lab Final. Course Final. Off track…) Anyhoo, power lines, bike rides, long long bike rides…check it here to read all about it

But these are them. Enjoy. I can still feel the tingle looking at them now. Good times.

Riding up to them. Looks pretty impressive. I was kind of in awe. There's something about all that power in one place that can kill you.

Ground to sky is ok but not nearly as cool as looking all the way up.

Doesn't that just make you want to find power lines and climb up them? No, well since the weather just turned massively ugly here...cold, blustery, overcast, with flakes of snow (NOOOO!!!!), this makes me want summer back.

The picture I love the most! I like the color and the angle...it was hard to tell if it came out because the day was really bright and I couldn't see to take the pic or to look at it after. Check out the plane flying across. And the moon. If I remember correctly the day was about to turn stormy. Captured forever.

Dodge Challenger 23

December 3, 2009 at 5:24 pm (Dodge Challenger) (, , )

And how about this? These were the first pictures I took with my new phone! Drove away from the phone place and right into the big parking lot where this little baby was sitting, just waiting for me to try out the camera. Lucky ducky.

Sunset. Redredred Challenger. And if you look close, you can see me in the side view taking the picture. It has everything!
