And Now, The Baby!

May 29, 2013 at 12:56 pm (Babies, Day to Day, Family, For Tom, Updates) (, , , , , , , , , , )

IMAG0385

I went with “smiling” baby. It’s been a week, but I finally made it over to the new baby house. And I only took a few pictures. I know. I was having an off day I guess. It’s hard to take pictures though, while you are holding the baby, so there is that. I tried though.

IMAG0382

And since this is pretty much all the baby does right now, I didn’t stay long either. I told my brother to call me when his boring kid starts doing stuff and I’ll come back over. I think he is still convinced (hoping) that this is how puppies look before they start growing fur and a tail. I’m going to let one of my sisters break the human news to him. But, he sure is cute isn’t he?! Later.

Update! The Meat!

May 29, 2013 at 12:08 pm (Day to Day, Food News, For Jeff the BF, Homemade, Updates) (, , , )

IMAG0095

This is the smoked meat result from the post a few days ago. I figured I would do this one first. Have the baby follow the meat. Although the meat following Memorial Day seemed wrong too. I think I solved the problem (Did I?) with a picture of a dandelion puff. This is only some of the meat. Much got eaten, apparently, while “pulling” it apart, and then more got eaten as a meal that night. When I got home at about midnight the same night, that entire dish was full. It was delicious! Perfect texture, great seasoning, flavor galore, and tender tender without being fatty or greasy. I ate enough. The BF made cole slaw too. And that was also delicious. And I am not really a fan of the coleslaw or even know how to make it. We are protein packed here for the week now. In case you were wondering poundage of meat—some do—I think the BF said it was 15 or so. Good thing it worked! Later.

Cheap Red Wine Update!!

September 27, 2011 at 1:25 pm (Cheap Red Wines, For Amanda, Updates, Wasting Study Time Posts) (, , , , , )

For those of you who might not read the comments. Although for my site, you really should read them. First of all, there’s hardly any. Second of all, IF an article even HAS a comment, most likely it is: 1. Very Important. 2. Very Hilarious. 3. From my sister, which is why it would BE #2. Or 4. From my mother. And don’t you want to see what a big time blogger like me gets scolded about publicly from her mommy?? Moving on…

My sister has replied to my plea about the carton of wine. And these are the real deals:

NOT bought at Walgreen’s. Was in fact, bought at JEWEL. So sorry for all of those I misled, thinking you could just run down to the corner drug store and pick up good, cheap wine that will actually get you buzzed. You’re gonna have to haul your lazy butt’s a few more miles to the closest Jewel store. Where they will have an alcohol section and most likely someone that knows it’s the good stuff, so bring I.D. We don’t promote underage drinking here. Seriously. Alcohol isn’t THAT great. Believe me you can wait until you are 21. You won’t be missing anything.

Next up…it WAS $5!! I figured it had to be close. I’ve purchased full size bottled wines for the same price that weren’t nearly as good.

And…my sister says they have other flavors! Well, alright! I’d say next trip I make to the grocery store I will go check that out.

In the name of really knowing how to waste some study time here, descriptive terminology, and reading the little box before I threw it out last night, I thought I would tell you how the winemaker explains the way it tastes. It reads much more professional than my words, but I’m not always sure I know exactly what some of these flavors and aromas are. This is an equal opportunity site though, so judge for yourself.

The wine company first describes the company and carton itself before the actual wine enclosed inside: Vendange Wine Cellars have a “passion for crafting approachable wines with true varietal character for everyday enjoyment” and this tradition continues with the “exciting new package that offers the ultimate in freshness and convenience.” Already sounds pretty good huh? Although I did say that yesterday, before reading this. It is convienient and it does stay delicious. Although my package did not last beyond 4 hours or so.

This is the wine: “Satisfyingly robust with notes of black cherry and toasted oak. Enjoy!” Now I wish I had read this first so that I could try and identify those notes.

I hope this helps round out my review now. Tasty cherry and oak notes via the vineyard, and a two-thumbs up, “Wine. Good.”, from the drinker. (Drinkers…the BF said it was “good” too.) We can all agree on the “Enjoy!” part. Thanks sissy!

Street Money Update!

February 20, 2010 at 2:34 am (Street Money) (, , , , , , , , )

Well, it’s pretty late. I did minimal study time and maximal wasting time. So what the heck…here’s a post too! I am not going into any details, check the next post if you want to know how some of this money got here, but this is the official count for today and like, the last few weeks probably. I’m sorry for being a lame web person but I didn’t even check to see when the last time I put this up…so here it is anyway:

Lots of dirty, salty, beat-up, run over, snow plowed pennies; a few nickels, maybe one; and three or four or five dimes. How precise. I swear I will calculate every last drop of IV medication I give you in the future, but I’m tired and these coins are taking up space on my counter…I gotta get them logged.

Total on this haul: 43 cents–pennies; Zero nickels, my bad, I should have checked first; 50 cents in dimes.

I also noticed I wrote myself a little note for various cents to remember: 33 and 10.

So that brings today’s total to: One dollar and 36 cents (I am soooo lazy tonight that I don’t even want to use the “special” symbols button)

For the year so far—Holy Cannoli!—this is February—and late Feb to boot—crap. Check the total here!

Street Money Update!

December 3, 2009 at 4:28 pm (Street Money) (, , , , , , , , , )

Oooh…my son is dying to get his hands on one of the coins that I found in the last few weeks. See, I won’t let them take any of the money until I tally it up for all you fine folks out there who care about such things as this like I do…so I leave it sitting on top of  the microwave, torturing them every day, until I can get here. So finally right??

One quarter (this is the one he wants–it’s just a regular old 1986 quarter–it’s not even really shiny–boys)

Three dimes

Fourteen  pennies

PLUS, one fake quarter. It’s plastic and it has “COPY” written across both sides. It’s not even the right size. But I am so good at finding money on the ground I can find money that is not even real!

It’s a skill.

Update for the year. Final month! New count is on the way…this is how I celebrate New Years! So sad…

This is the total for today (forgot to add that):  69¢

And here is the semi-blurry picture of the fake coin. Toodles!

SuperFastUpdateForTheSeventeenPeopleStill

November 30, 2009 at 6:33 pm (Day to Day, Exercise, Hiatus, News, Updates) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Following This Mess…Even though there is NOTHING new to read. I mean, I like my writing style, and I think that I am pretty interesting, and there  is alot of stuff in past posts that you should totally check out…but I am straying off my original path here….

Since I had a comment (thanks Jesse!) I thought I’d throw down a few words and let the last of November fade out with a quick update.

This is week 15 out of 16 in the nursing program. Two more weeks and a Final. I am hanging in there to say the very least. My grades are fine, but the stress is going to give ME a disorder. I have dreams every night about what I read (tomorrow is ostomy care so…maybe I should just stay up…)

Nutrition has been the focus for the last few weeks…it is interesting and VAST. I cannot dream about vitamins and beriberi and rickets one more night! I used to laugh at my ex-father-in-law and his beriberi comments as excuse to call in sick, but not anymore. I thought he was making it up! It’s not as funny when you have to actually know what it is!! And then identify it in an application question about thiamine or niacin or B6 with staggering walk and mental confusion….see?? Remember in Down and Out in Beverly Hills when Nick Nolte grabs the grapefruit off the tree and says, “Don’t want to get scurvy!” He’s not kidding. Same thing. I see this learning-stuff everywhere! It’s terrible!

However, it has made me more aware of my diet and my family’s diet, and guess what?? It sucks. We are flabby and unhealthy. We eat poorly and we don’t exercise enough. So, I am inviting you, along with me and the kids and BF, to jump on my bandwagon. Check out this site:

www.mypyramid.gov

Go to the My Pyramid Tracker portion of it and start calculating that food and energy. Let’s really do something next year for our health. I mean, if it really blows that bad you can always just quit and eat chips and junk again!

It’s a cool site, really. Very helpful. All about the food pyramid and guides for healthy choices. It takes some time and effort to make it work for you, but believe me, I had to use it for a graded assignment and I spent lots of time, back and forth, tweaking the thing. My family can testify to the choice words I may have uttered (shouted screamed yelled) but in the end…Pass. Satisfactory.

Also in honor of better health, I started running again. I stopped after the 5 Mile. Ran every few days to weeks, but nothing in the last month, until Saturday. Do I pace myself? Take it slow? Easy? 30 minutes, maybe a few miles? Oh No! I go full out five mile run for 65 minutes. (Not a great time, but let’s see how long any of you would do after a month break) And then to top it off I go do some sit-ups and arm exercises. You know, gain all that fitness back in one giant shot. HA. FAIL.

I can barely walk 2 days later. Stairs are excruciating, especially down. Why is that? I should probably know huh? Oh well, we ain’t on muscle disease and disorders yet…I blame my sister Amanda. We were supposed to be running together but she got all preggers with another kid and now we can’t do that. Thanks alot babymaker. Heehee.

Anyhoo, that’s all for now. I have to go back to studying. The ball keeps rolling and I like to stay ahead of it. Check out that site. Check out my stuff and stay tuned! I have some really awesome playlists to catch us all up on. Perfect for getting back into shape with and just rocking out. (Rocking out…what a nerd!) I also found more money! Nothing spectacular like twenty bucks, but change and stuff. Also we have sushi pics (I know there is at least one person out there who likes to look and tell me what I’m eating! Thanks to you-know-who-you-are!) And what else…I think I have Challenger pics and some other stuff on my phone that I can’t think of right now. You know me. I’ll get all the useless info out there for ya. I’m a giver. I also have some serious stuff too…for real. I wish I had enough time to do it justice. I will in about three weeks. For now, let me just say:

Good luck Scotta! You are the bravest woman I know! Keep fighting the good fight and do not lose that sense of humor. You rock! We are sending out all the love and strength in the world to you!

Alright. I have to attach some kind of pictures because these are just too many words. Talk to you all on the other side.

You have to ask yourself, "What could this be?? And why did she post it??" Best guess gets a shout out...and an explanation to follow later.

And we are back…it’s Wednesday afternoon, pre-running post…More Warrior, with updates!

July 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm (Day to Day, Exercise, Pictures, Video, Warrior Dash) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

As I was flipping thru the internet I noticed that the Helmet Cam video is on You Tube now! Thank goodness! I can’t get the other formats to work or convert or whatever people do to make things show up here. So I am posting that here. It’s long, but it gives a really good playback of what we were doing. Makes you wish you were there huh??

I went to my sister’s yesterday to babysit for her and her house full of children, including my own, because this year her birthday NEVER ends!

The hubby went and bought her tickets! Awwww….

It was a secret, she didn’t know she was going to the SOX game AND sitting behind the dugout–so close to the players she could feel their sweat (Eeeww for me, Yay! for her). She’s kind of a fanatic. At any rate, they took, like, 200 pictures of players I couldn’t identify on threat of death if they were standing right in front of me with their jerseys on, much less standing at home plate facing the other way swinging a bat! But whatever…she had a good time. If she sends me any of her favorite pictures I can add them here as kind of a Sox player-sister-tribute thing. So look for that later too!

Now that’s it. Happy Birthday. It’s over! Sheesh…

Also, they got the pictures back from the Mud-Cam and some are really good! Some are really bad too. Two in particular have me going over the Wall with my ass looking like I put two beach balls in my pants! It’s funny but not TOO funny. I confiscated the actual prints and they are currently residing in my fridge and food cabinets with a serious note to myself asking if I REALLY want to eat anything inside these areas of the house?? Maybe I should go have a big glass of water, run around the block, and reconsider eating any kind of solid food for the next few weeks. But I’m waiting for the digital to show up in my e-mail so I can post, so we’ll see if those two make it to daylight…maybe if I get a few subscribers??? Hint, hint. (Pathetic grab for attention!)

How long can I drag out this Warrior Dash to get more hits for my site? At least a few more days!

We have to go hit the trail now. Third day of the new fitness regiment. Mason doesn’t want to–he’s still sore, and Stevie doesn’t really get it yet…so this should be fun! Mommy has to be the bad guy. Exercise is good! In a month or so they’ll thank me!

I will post later with any new pics and such. Stay active!

NYCC Update! Video for Men In Black!

July 15, 2009 at 11:14 am (Find The NY Coffee Cup, Movies, Video) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

So I’m searching now. I could not find any Sidewalks Of New York video. That’s fine. It was a small movie, arty, a long time ago, probably doesn’t have a huge fan base that would post.

But the Men In Black fans are out there and using their skills! Here are a few scenes for your enjoyment!

This one is about the :45 second mark. I like this whole part actually. It’s a good scene. Will Smith freaking out. Aliens making coffee! Ha. See the movie if you haven’t. You will like it. And scene:

You can skip to the 1:20 mark here or just play. It’s also at the 9:00 mark too! I always recommend seeing the whole movie! Here ya go:

And it’s here too! Right at the beginning!

Ok, so you get the idea! I have to go shower and change…my kiddies will be coming home in a little while. And I have to pay some bills. I’ll post more silly stuff later.

Hey Jesse! This is for you!

July 2, 2009 at 7:55 pm (Day to Day) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It is Thursday night. July 2. I am finally updating! I have lots of stuff in the hopper. Seriously!

I even have an outdated MJ/Farrah/Billy Mays tribute post. I don’t want to overload an already overloaded internet-web-blog-memory-post-world, but I’m afraid I must. If only to tell the story my sister Amanda doesn’t want anyone to know! Please stay tuned.

I have actually been…busy. For any and all who might actually follow this thing, I had to concentrate on school and some house chores. My kids left for vacation with their grandma, but the BF is off this week too! So we did boyfriend/girlfriend things and family things and exercise things…

WARRIOR DASH! Only 2 weeks away. I have a 15 pound weight loss/fitness regime to get back on track before my kids get home next week.

5.8 pounds already gone, if you care! The secret is:

Workout like mad. Don’t eat crap. Drink water.

Sorry. Sad but true. No gimmicks, no tricks, no pills, no shortcuts. Follow my above plan and you will look and feel better in one week!

The BF is actually out tonight with his buds, catching up with some old friends by means of food and beer, the usual. So here I am. I have all night. I have chapters to read, CPR notes to go over, laundry to wash and dry and fold (blah), and YOU to talk with!

I got pictures and videos and music and maybe a little drink…(very little…in training AND alone). Go get yourself something to drink along with me and keep checking back. Let’s make Thursday the new Friday! At least for this week! Get ready. Get set.

We have BUTTERFLY!!

June 16, 2009 at 12:09 pm (Butterflies, Caterpillars, Day to Day, Pictures) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Sorry, this is Tuesday. My education obligations and medical appointments had me running. No time for the computer. Until now!

We had our first butterfly on Sunday!

Just one little guy…well…he was big…bigger than I thought. But he was all alone. And Stevie (my daughter) was not home! She was with her dad. I tried to get hold of her all day, but no luck. Sunday went into Monday. Our butterfly dried and fluttered and flew around in his small home. He was hanging upside down on the netting on top of the container. We tried to let him go at dusk, Sunday night…no luck. He just stayed stuck. So we tucked him in for the night and waited until Monday morning. Less than 45 seconds with the net back and off he went. I tried to catch as much on video…but you know how these young butterflies can be! Off to find a mate! Not even a Disney pause to say thanks!

Oh well. The rest were still hanging all chyrsalis-style. Not moving. That was 10 am. Monday. These pics and video are from that point.

I also checked the internet for any care tips or general butterfly info. A few things I learned:

1. The warmer the temperature outside/inside/wherever they are hanging, determines the speed of metamorphosis. Broad time frame, 10-15 days. We had our first at Day 12.

2. The new butterflies only need to dry for a few hours. Our first guy took many hours. But….

3. They need heat to fly! Their wings, and bodies, need to be warm in order to lift off the ground and stay lifted. Once they get flying the energy it takes to keep flying generates the heat they need! That’s why…

4. Alot of butterflies have darker exterior wing colors. To absorb the heat of the sun. That’s also why…

5. They flutter their wings! It creates more surface area and warms up their bodies. Who knew?

6. Butterfly caterpillars make a chrysalis.  Moth caterpillars make cocoons. (The guy on the internet was kind of picky about this distinction)

7. Once the butterfly flies away, they look for mates, start a family, lay their eggs, and die.

8. It is kind of sad, but these particular type, Mourning Cloak, can live up to 10 months! Pretty long for a butterfly. We are nothing, if not sturdy out here in the Midwest!

9. One extra fyi–The Mourning Cloak is so named because its wings resemble the type of cloak that was worn in the 1800’s for mourning the dead.

And now YOU know too! Go out and impress your friends.  First take a look at these though:

He was a milk jug butterfly. After busting out of the chrysalis, he clung to the side for awhile.
