Just because this starts a whole new year. One week late.

January 6, 2012 at 8:25 pm (Body and Brains!, Books, Day to Day, Exercise, Losing the Fat, Movies, Phone Camera, Pictures, Skeleton Trees, Unemployed Posts, Weather) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

And because I get to combine all my favorite things. A chunk update. Another weather update. And pictures from my phone. Of the sky. At sunset. With a lot of skeleton trees. This is what 55 degrees in January at dusk looks like this year. It was warm today too. I don’t generally go for the no jacket thing just because it’s hotter than usual. I’m the first one to yell pneumonia. And we’re all being lured into poor health by good weather. But I’ll admit I was only wearing a zip-up hoodie and I was getting kind of hot outside. The sun was shining down so bright that I was getting crabby and drowsy. The warm sun just makes me want to lay down in it and take a nap. Like a snake I guess. Or a fat middle aged non exercising chunk of fun. Here comes the chunk part! It’s a tough week. I’m more tired than usual. Kind of achy and greasy. And I was particularly sick of feeling sad and depressed. So I spruced up this old carcass a bit with some new hair color (sorry Amanda…I know you are the only one who should be allowed to fix my hair but I swear I cannot drive for two hours, pay for gas and tolls and feel good about myself until I get a job…the box has to be the cure for now…it looks good by the way. The kids didn’t even notice. They thought something was different but couldn’t put their fingers on it until after I told them. My theory on home hair coloring, or anything really that you try to do yourself, is that if no one notices anything different it’s a good job. Only the glaring mistakes or radical change gets any attention) and some good hygiene and hair removal. However I also ate a bunch of crap that I shouldn’t because it was here and I had to get rid of it by next week when the real work on chipping away the fat cells begins. You will all be happy to know that I managed to eat, er, get rid of, all the chips and dip and most of the cheese/sausage/cracker stores. I also disposed of an entire box of Whitman’s Dark Chocolates, with my daughters help, who interestingly enough HATES dark chocolate but was able to power through and help me save our household for the greater good. I also drank the rest of the wine from the other night and am currently working on the final two bags of Ghirardelli chocolates while washing them down with Jack Daniels. I haven’t cooked in a week or worked out. In fact we have been staying up way too late watching the bad movies we love so much. The kids have to go back to school Monday and I should be working by the next week. (That’s very wishful thinking as I am making it my sole purpose in life–well besides eating all the food in the house—to have a job in another week or two.) I will have a full report on the snacks because I took pics of them. Really. For instance, I found this GIANT potato chip in the bag. I mean it was really big. I don’t think I have ever seen one this big. So of course I took it’s picture. With the dip container and the TV remote for scale. I also took pics of the sky and some more trees, big surprise. And I have a movie list if you’re interested! We watch BAD movies. Like B movie bad. With old stars like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany in them. Or Lorenzo Lamas. Remember him? And they usually are battling a giant crocodile or a sharktopus, you know a shark-octopus hybrid, or a giant squid against a giant snake. Some are better than others and some are just terrible. This is how we spend family time. As for tonight, I have to try and hurry this along, because the BF is on his way with another sack full of fast food from the local greasy spoon and we have a special night of, All New Releases!, to watch. They have to be back tomorrow so we have to plan our time carefully. I actually feel a little sick right now from the food I ate today. I know this is not something I should even say out loud, but I cannot wait until I get my dang period! (pardon my french). My appetite will disappear, I can get some energy back and hit the gym instead of the Dunkin Donuts, and burn off the winter weight. From about 10 winters but who’s really counting anymore. I only have about 10 pounds to lose (for each winter) so it’s pretty do-able! I’m excited. Oh! I almost forgot! I finished a book! A reading book. Not a school book. It was the Denis Leary one. You might have read about it here two years ago or so. Sadly, that’s how long it has taken me. I finished it last year. Made it just under the mark too. Like December 29th or something. I still recommend it for anyone who likes Denis Leary. It is funny and easy to read. Even my mom’s brain surgeon said, “that guy is something else…” and he chuckled. So there you have it, a brain surgeon endorsement! I’m just not good with the whole concentration thing in sentence and paragraph form without a lot of pictures to break up the words. Except for when I type. I can really string some letters together huh? I put a picture of the book below so I wouldn’t ruin my sunset shot. Oh! And I also found my first street money of the year. One penny and one dime. I will try and keep that up to date now. Just as soon as I tally up last year and post it under its proper heading. There’s just no excuses for letting all you loyal readers down. You want to know these silly mundane things that have no benefit to anyone.  And I cant even keep up. And truthfully I am not doing much else besides sitting around and thinking about doing stuff. I’m lucky we have laundry. Alright, seriously, let me wrap this up. I know the BF will be here any minute and I want to catch up on my Words With Friends (evil evil evil—addiction in smart phone form) and BeJeweled (the other evil in the world of computers and high tech gaming–that was meant to be funny. BeJeweled is hardly high tech. It’s really no-tech. It’s pretty though. Match the gems for one minute. Try to score as many points as possible. Why, oh why, would that ever be addicting??) Ok, I think I hear a car in the driveway and my liquor glass is empty. Using the words from my son’s first book that he really liked…breathe and think…relax and run…om shanti shanti…Until later…

And ready to bring it home…

December 16, 2010 at 2:32 pm (School News) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Last semester. Schedule secured. Paid in full. ID updated. Lucky pen pack purchased. Said goodbye to my friends and headed out the door.

Drove to the local White Castle (I know right? but  for some reason it hits you when you drive past it) and got a bunch of crap I definitely don’t need to eat. With the DIET Coke. I mean, come on, the food is really enough. And they shorted me on three of my chicken rings. Which is actually fine because instead of being able to type this I would probably be in the bathroom throwing up, wondering why I ever ate all that food in the first place. I don’t have any kind of eating disorder, I just wanted something nasty before I starve myself for the next month! Seriously…it sucks too because of Christmas and all that.

The reason I will not be eating more than grains and water (and exercising like a fiend—don’t worry purists I still need some muscle tone) is because I have a picture to take in January. Late January, early Feb. It is probably the most important and most meaningful picture I will ever take in my whole life, and I’ve been married! Like all formal and stuff! This picture is actually going to be forever!! So you see…no food.

It’s fine though, I can eat after! And I am even pretty sure I don’t have to buy any more books! Which is fine because the ones I have are plenty.

I will be taking a little break from the books for now, but only very short. The new material gets posted every day and the “encouragement” to look over the new readings to be prepared is subtle but unmistakable. None of us want to fail now.

Oh look! The snow they said was coming last night has just arrived. I might actually enjoy a flake or two of it while sweating my butt off and listening to my stomach growl…ha…but that won’t be until tomorrow. I am seriously going to need, like 24 hours, to digest all that food I just ate.

And it’s Thursday! Start of Football Week! I have developed a real love problem with football this year. It started last year but it’s really full on now. I even bought a jersey! My family is sick of it already…well ONE person in my family anyway—you know who you are (hahaha!) so I am just hanging out waiting for my kids to get home from school because we got some stuff to go do. Then some dinner (I will be eating today—obviously…) some football, and then…that’s it. Tomorrow is a free day. Aren’t you all lucky! I’ll post all the crap I haven’t and I will let you follow me along on my journey of hunger and yearning  R/T one singular photo. Sounds fun doesn’t it?

OVER!

December 14, 2010 at 4:44 pm (School News, Updates) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

For the semester! Thank God! It wasn’t as bad as the last one and I sure didn’t want to kill myself this time like I did after the last final. I was going for the A this time. It’s all about the points. And I was THIS close. I was up, I was down; I lost a few and gained them back. It came down to the last points on the final exam and I just couldn’t do it. FAIL. Well, not fail. I passed the test and the class with a really really (really) high B. I keep my Honor Society and I get that damn pin they have been dangling over our heads the entire semester.

But still….last thing I said to Stevie today before she left for school was that I hope when I see that grade, if I do miss the A, let it be at least by 2 points. It can’t be just one. One point is wrong. One point is one foot from the shore and drowning anyway. It’s like falling flat on your face one foot from the finish line. That’s alot of F’s in that sentence. OK. Re-focus.

So you know, YOU KNOW, that is exactly what I missed that shit ass A by. One stinking lousy point! One point too stupid!! And I can’t even blame the test because someone only missed 6 total and I missed double that! Something to strive for next year right?? UGH!! It’s almost too much. Maybe I was sabotaged?? Maybe I should have studied just a few more hours…

All in all I am thankful and grateful to be moving on. School is hard. And it just gets harder. For all you youngsters out there…and I KNOW there are some that read this:

DO NOT WAIT to go to school!! Do what you must to make it happen while you are young. And childless. And free to move anywhere, at anytime, and get that career before you do all the things that make life so much harder as you get older. The boyfriend/girlfriend WILL wait for you to be done if they are the one. The children will be better off if you are not struggling along with them to grow up and figure out what you want to do with your life. You can always change careers after 20 years. It’s not even unusual anymore! But you need to start with SOMETHING first!! You need to listen to me. I am smart, remember?!?!

I am also lucky. I have the best family, and the best kids, and the best friends that are helping me thru every single day, and hopefully I am helping them somehow too.

And most of all, I have the BEST boyfriend EVER! (That’s the best “husband” to all my patients–the older folks don’t like the term “boyfriend” for some reason) Without him, really, this just wouldn’t even work at all. And even though I NEVER say it….I am so thankful and so grateful you are with me through all of this, and I love you very, very much. (And no…not ONE drop of alcohol…this is ALL me!)

And that’s it. It took me all day to get up and do anything. I reorganized my papers for school next semester when I have to take the BIG test. I paid the bills that needed paying. And I did some laundry. I am now about to troll around on the internet for awhile and then read some trashy magazines that have been piling up. I also started a book. Yes, an actual book that is not a textbook. It’s just funny. It’s Dr. Denis Leary, in case you were interested. “Why We Suck”. I think it’s actually listed in my sidebar under “stuff that we like” or something like that. Yes, I bought it over a year ago, maybe even 2. I am reading it now. Like I said, school is hard and all consuming. I am on page 10 and I have laughed out loud at least 10 times already and the first non-numbered pages are just acknowledgments and the table of contents. He is just THAT funny. Seriously.

So I am off to it now. Again, thanks for hanging with me. Definitely more posts to come. For at least a few weeks anyway.

So, where was I??

July 26, 2010 at 6:46 pm (Day to Day, Exercise, P90X) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Let me go back to my P90X notebook (yes, I have a separate notebook just for the X–don’t laugh, you really need one or you can’t gauge the process) last time I was here was….Day 10? Well, I guess I’m behind. Here it is already Day 21. I’ve done the sequence three times now and it’s a tiny bit easier. I say that with emphasis on the tiny bit. Let me re-cap, but quickly:

Day 10, I finished my arms and abs and went running. I discovered a better way to train. Use the Random setting on the treadmill. It’s got inclines and all that. I started with a level 10 of 20 just because I didn’t know where to go. Did 30 minutes. Started slow. Like, walk/jog slow and worked up to actual running. I increased speed every few minutes. The BF says I don’t work hard enough and that may be true. I like the feeling of running not the feeling of winning. I only have to do five miles in less than 55 minutes. That’s my goal. Very achievable at the slow ass rate I run on the treadmill. So that’s that. I highly recommend some extra cardio with the P90X, especially if you have the time and if you are like me and not eating perfect. Plus it makes you feel darn good and so strong.

Anyhoo…I have to hurry because I told the BF I would run with him today at the gym and I really don’t want to…I really brought it today to make up for me NOT bringing it the last three days. Blah. Here’s the fast version:

Day 11 thru 20: I ran thru the schedule just as written. I think I missed a day or two, but nothing drastic. Still hurting. Still can’t do all the Abs to save my life, but I can do all 25 of the first exercise. Ten more to go at the same rate. I am using my pull up bar and it’s good. The day I can do unassisted (without the chair) is going to be a highlight. Push ups are  moving along. Still on my knees…uh huh…but working toward on my toes. You people are sick.

The best news is that I actually lost 2.2 pounds and did not alter the diet super dramatically. I will say that I am eating far less than I was and I try to make the good choices but I am not there yet. I feel better in my skin even though the jeans still fit the same.

This week, my kids are gone again. 😦 They get another vacation with their dad which I am happy for, but sad because summer is flying by and we have to start the grind, and I love having them around me all the time. But I am taking this week to clean up my diet. It’s easiest when there is only you to worry about.

Day 21. This is today. Felt really out of it because I skipped Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Lazy/Fatigued (thanks monthly cycle—it hits me harder some months than others, damn aging), Birthday Party (happy b-day to my double nieces born on the same day, Elexa and Jesse, 8 and 15), Pierogi Fest (the Polack in me must go eat bad foods and drink the hootch). So after getting up to move the car for the BF and assessing the monthly situation…I went right back to bed. And after sleeping my once a year, 12 hour nap, I was ready to get up for good.

I picked Plyometrics as my choice workout. It gives me the best feeling of working and the most fun and activities. Then I added in my own push-up/ab/arm exercises to finish the burn and punch out that last little bit of strength I had. The sweat is unbelievable and disgusting. I like to keep the air off for that extra bonus “heat” effect. Glistening. Anyway it’s not nearly as hot as it was outside so it’s saving money too.

Now it’s about 6:30 pm Chicago time, and I am dreading the phone call to meet at the gym. I am trying to clean out my body today. Nothing bad in. Water (and coffee–I’m not a superhero) and I ate blueberries and a banana. One day of  “sort-of-fasting” is not going to kill me.

For tomorrow, Day 22, I am adding in one more week of Phase 1. I feel I need an extra boost with these exercises and a nice clean lead in to the rest phase and the next weeks to come.

I’m going for alot this week. Exercise, complete catch up on this site, complete school reading before the new stuff comes, an I-Tunes/I-pod updated player and lists, money–in and out, the never ending always waiting laundry and housecleaning. Yuck to the yuck. I’m even gonna go workout special with my friend Beth on Friday—so I really got to work it this week. And I’m gonna help my sissy with her garage sale for one day—I’d love to help all three, but…no I wouldn’t! Sorry Amanda!

Follow me here if you care, and give me your comments and advice and any other thing that crosses your mind. I know I can ramble with the best of them.

Just because I love it, I’m putting pictures of the Pierogi Queen and her Babushka Brigade around all these words. Just a bunch of Polacks having fun!

Good Morning, Rainy Thursday!

June 11, 2009 at 9:25 am (Day to Day, Find The NY Coffee Cup) (, , , , )

It’s Thursday. It’s raining. (But it’s one of those nice, rainy, summery mornings that makes you want to curl up on the couch with a good magazine. Books are still a little out of my attention span) First test grade at school is, officially, good. Kids are still sleeping, and my coffee is tasty and hot!

I’ll be taking my son for his 6th grade physical today. Shots! He says he will NOT be a needle-chicken this year! We are betting an El Famous Burrito lunch extravaganza on this. Will we be eating delicious Chicken Quesadillas, Beef Nachos, Chips, Salsa AND Guacamole at 12:30 ish today? Or will we be driving home in rainy, gloomy, summertime shame? Find out later!

I have to go hop in the shower. So for now, please enjoy this light reading about one of my favorite subjects.
