Love and other drugs…

June 21, 2011 at 5:55 pm (Bowling, Day to Day, Exercise, Summer Break, Things The Kids Like) (, , , , )

This is what my kids love. (Well, this and X-Box Live. I think the Microsoft Corporation is seriously brainwashing our kids {and a whole lot of grown-ass men} thru the consoles. At least all the ones that aren’t being brainwashed by Sony Corp. I’m talking to you PS3 people!)

Summer (unofficial) practice starts today. Ya gotta bowl with the new stuff to really bowl!

We do: Kids Bowl Free!  Click it to sign up. We use the alley we have leagues in, but there is a variety of bowling centers to choose from. Kids Bowl Free is awesome, and I LOVE our regular bowling center, however, it’s farther away from home and gas ain’t cheap. BUT,  I did sign the kids up this year anyway, because it’s still free bowling!

Luckily, we have several bowling corporations in our area so I was able to sign them up for another program too, which I highly recommend:

Summer Unplugged! Free Bowling for Kids! This is for AMF Lanes exclusively.

Click it and sign up. We go EVERY day. No joke. And if you like to bowl, pay the extra and sign yourself up too. It really is a good deal. (Even better if you have your own shoes!) We do two separate programs, but I would recommend the AMF program to start. A few bucks extra, but more summer days, and lots of available bowling time. Also, cheap rates for games if you need to bowl a few more because you are, let’s say, breaking in a new ball, and you need to work on that curve.

Bowling gets you up and out of the house. And it’s pretty good exercise. Do it, even if it’s just so the house feels cooler when you get back! Plus, once you’re out, you may find a whole summer of fun waiting for you on the other side of the couch! Click one, join one, then turn off the computer and GO PLAY!

Sleep Pic of the Day! 2-For-1 Special, Official Summer Kick-Off!

June 21, 2011 at 10:53 am (Sleep Pic of the Day) (, , , , , )

My daughter didn’t know she would be featured in her very own daily picture post! This is at the ungodly hour of 7 am. Straight legged, looking kind of stiff but snoring ever so slightly, hands over her head. I remember reading a long time ago, when I was  fresh mom, that when babies, or kids, sleep with their arms thrown up over their head like that, they are in the most relaxing sleep they can be in. It’s a sign of their pure comfort. No inner baby stress, I guess. I always thought that was a nice thing for new moms to know. You can be assured that you ARE NOT doing a completely crap job if your kid can lay like he/she has no cares in the world, even if it is for a short time, and even though they really don’t have any cares in the world, except food/sleep/poo. Hmm. Actually, I know alot of people like that….but anyway…. even if ALL the babies in the world sleep like that just because they do, it’s still a plus in the parent department.

Here’s a pic after I woke her up at 8 am. I know, I am a MONSTER! She managed to make it all the way to the couch. At least she was out of her bed. That’s half the battle.

Summer. All official like.

June 21, 2011 at 9:46 am (Day to Day, Holiday, Summer Break) (, , , )

June 21. Longest day of the year and looking like it’s going to be gorgeous here in the Midwest/Chicago area. They say rain, but I don’t see it. Makes me want to get outside and run run run. Bruising on the foot has shifted to a mostly central location and my toes don’t hurt that bad.

Time to get up and get out. Band and bowling. Benches and bugs. Birds and Bruises. I could probably keep going, but you get the idea. I have alot of  “B” stuff on here. How strange, but I think we’re going to do an outdoor theme. Better get on it, it’s going to be a long day.

The sleep of summer vacation

June 20, 2011 at 2:46 pm (Day to Day, Pictures, Sleep Pic of the Day, Summer Break) (, )

This doesn’t even look comfortable. And yet, a severe thunderstorm from 5 am to 8 am, with 350 lightning strikes at last count, could not disturb the slumber of the weary summer breaker. Life is good.

Time to Drive

June 20, 2011 at 8:48 am (Day to Day, Summer Break) (, , , , , )

Gotta get these kids up and out of the house. Doctors and dentists. Fun summer vacation so far. But, I like to get all their appointments out of the way in the first week of break, that way they don’t have anything hanging over their heads for the whole summer. Just late nights playing video games and later mornings sleeping it off. They’re like mini-addicts. Perfect for a slacker mom like me that needs to get things done without their input and while they are crashed out. It’s the best way to have kids. Quiet and in the other room! They’ll thank me when they are older.

Cool Word of the Day! Two-Years Later Edition

June 20, 2011 at 8:23 am (Cool Words) (, , , , , )

Delude  (verb)

Definition:  To fool, decieve; to mislead utterly.

As in: Do not delude yourself into thinking you are going to pass the state boards if you do not start studying seriously for that test!!! Dumbass!!

(I added the last part as a bit of motivational jeering). I will prob be getting  a test date this week and I need to get back on track. All these brains may not rescue me without a little back-up knowledge. It’s crap out (again) anyway. Perfect week to finish all the Q’s I need to practice. So let’s go! One test per day plus 50 extra questions. I should be a “re-expert” by the end of the week. I think this post needs help with vocabulary. Tomorrow!

Happy Father’s Day!

June 19, 2011 at 12:06 pm (Day to Day, Holiday, My Dad) (, , , )

To all the Dads out there doing it every single day without fail, whether they want to or not. And these days, alot of those dads aren’t even doing it for their own biological children. I had one of the good dads, one of the good step-dads,  AND I am blessed to have one of the new dads for my kids. (Mine really lucked out in the “daddy” department. They have the good ones too.)

So if you have a dad to go see today and you actually LIKE to hang out with him, consider yourself lucky and have a drink for me! (If that’s your thing—and it has to be right? Family time is HARD!!) For all the rest of us, we can still drink too! I mean, come on, it’s almost Sunday afternoon in June! Alcohol never cares why you’re drinking it, just that you are!

Cheers!

Flip-Flop World has opened up for me now

June 18, 2011 at 1:38 pm (Broken Toe, Day to Day, Pictures, Warrior Dash) (, , , , , , )

Another colorful addition to this stellar website. This is Saturday morning. I must have been crazy thinking I was going to run a 3+ Mile/Obstacle Course/Mud Race like the Warrior Dash (still, Boo! Hoo!), with shoes on. Dummy!

The good news is that I am wearing a flip-flop! In case you don’t know, it’s a kind of shoe that is very open, with just a piece of material that goes between your big toe and the rest of them. It makes a flip-flop sound when you walk, because your heel hits the shoe base every time you step. They have all different kinds, from very fancy to extremely cheap; with a thick sole or a super thin sole; plain or dressed up with beads and things; you get the picture. Anyway, some people really love them, and wear nothing else, no matter what occasion (I have seen them at baptisms and weddings with a very formal dress on–I mean, really? Even the fanciest flip-flop is STILL a flip-flop). And some people HATE them. Can’t stand the look of them. Can NOT stand the sound of them. That smacking sound just gets under the nerves—you know who you are—and I apologize to my loyal fan base if you are one of them because I HAD to go over to the dark side. I could never wear them before. It usually hurts in between my toes so bad that I can’t walk, but unfortunately, I need to go to a party today and I wanted to wear shorts and my giant skater shoes are just not going to cut it. My neighbor said I just need to practice, toughen up the skin, use a band-aid, whatever, it never really worked for me. But I guess it’s a whole new ball game when you can’t put any other kind of shoe on and you don’t want to go barefoot. I mean, we ARE going practically to the edge of Illinois, in the middle of nowhere, on a farm, with horses, but I still think they wear shoes out there! Haha. (Just kidding Cuz!)

I am sure never in your whole life did you imagine you would be reading a broken-toed, flip-flop, coming-from-behind, Cinderella-story, much less be riveted by its intricate details, and yet, here we are, at the end.

I have overcome my flip-flop adversity, whether by necessity or sheer will power, I may never know. All I do know, is I put it on, I walked around, and it wasn’t painful. Well, it was. But only a little bit. I could definitely NOT walk for hours in them (yet) and I had to concentrate more on driving (I was afraid my foot was going to slip off the pedal), but I’d say generally, success! A whole new world of shoes has opened up for me, and I have shared it all with you! I know. I feel the emotion too. Dramatic pause. Transition.

Well, the BF is home from the far away land of Tennessee, and we are heading out to the farm. Have a wonderful afternoon, ya’ll. Stay flip-floppy!

Last foot shot, I swear. But you see, it hardly looks bad at all on a shoe!

Warrior. Dashed.

June 17, 2011 at 8:56 pm (Day to Day, Warrior Dash) (, , , , )

Sorry for the picture of my foot. Gross, I know. But after having a great weekend hanging with my cousins on Saturday and then going to Riverfest, for the first time, on Sunday (all that walking!), I go and break my toe at 7:30 am Monday morning. What. A. Bummer.

I think it’s just the small toe, but as the week has gone by, the swelling and bruising kind of spread all across the front of my foot and in between all my toes. Some of the girls I go to school with saw it (nurses love to look at injuries…when I asked if they wanted to see it, they were all like, YES!, weird group huh?) and when I took off my sock, they said, geez…are you sure it’s just one toe broken? Well, no, not really, especially as the week went on. I am sparing you the day by day shots because who really wants to go to a website and look at a foot everyday?

Anyway, I can walk on it in my big shoes. (I wear these really wide, fat, skater shoes that are stretched out) but I can’t put on my running shoe or my bowling shoe! The sock helps to keep it nice and together so its ok  for now. Nothing to be done for it anyhow. But it means I can’t run the Warrior. And I am so…MAD and SAD and just….not fair!!! I could probably run but I don’t think I could do some of the obstacles. Especially the ones that need foot grip or toe using. I’m really bummed because it was in a new location and they had new, cool, obstacles and…I have to stop thinking about it. It’s not happening, so get over it and get ready for next year. I should be grateful that I didn’t damage my foot so bad that I can’t even walk. And I am. At least I’ll be able to work. When I get a job! Ha.

At least now I have a legitimate, good excuse for not doing anything.

To any and all fellow warriors out there: Good luck this weekend! I hope it’s just muddy enough! I will be thinking of you and being jealous that I am not there falling in the mud too! Post lots of pics so I can see what I missed! Boo!!!! Hoo!!!!!

Conspiracy!

June 11, 2011 at 1:45 pm (Day to Day, Exercise, Movies, Running Stuff, Warrior Dash, Weather) (, , , , , )

Now, if I really want to push the issue, I could blame my chest cold on my complete lack of trying–training–for the Warrior Dash. (And not just the weather). It’s legitimate. However, if I need someone or something to blame for my complete lack of STUDYING for this test I’m supposed to be taking, well then, I HAVE to blame the cable companies 100%. That’s right I said it. How dare they give us free movie channels?!? All weekend long! With free HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, TMC, Flix, and other stations that I’m not even sure what they are, how in the hell am I EVER supposed to go study?? Half the movies are crap anyway, but…I haven’t seen them or I have seen them but they suck you in, and they’re free. Freeeeeeeeeee…..I haven’t seen that movie on the list but I’m sure if they play it I will watch it. Ugh. Here’s a little re-cap of how I wasted Friday night:

Scary Movie (still pretty d-a-m-n funny)

Transformers. 2. (s-u-c-k-e-d, but I never saw it, and glad I didn’t waste any money in the theater to see it. It really was bad. sorry.)

Salt (saw it about 5 times already, and even watched it on DVD a mere three days ago with Stevie, but watched it AGAIN)

And we are already planning for later tonight. Easy A is being recorded (only saw that one 3 times and the BF has never seen it, so that makes it ok and a good excuse, plus, it’s really cute. I recommend that one for people exactly my age and with children, particularly girls…I won’t turn this into a giant movie review but trust, it’s good.)

Stevie wants to see Tooth Fairy and Grown Ups, (not interested and also seen 3 times) but I say, half the fun is just scrolling thru the guide and picking at random! Crazy Saturday nights! Man, I need to get a job quick! I should prob go study so I can make that happen.
