Pneumonia Anyone?

Thank you, internet, for exactly expressing my thoughts. And a million other people’s thoughts. But seriously. I meant to post this last week when it was 90 degrees on Friday. And sweltering. Sunny. Hot. Humid. Then 40 degrees on Saturday. And raining. Thundering. Lightning. Hailing. Ice and tornadoes. Where else in the country can you run the risk of having both heatstroke and hypothermia within a 24 hour period? And potentially having all your fresh, green, spring, grass wither and turn brown today, and maybe have your house completely demolished tomorrow?

I only bring it up today, again, because yesterday was another rainy, humid day of varying temperatures. Sixty-ish. I’m told. Because I can’t remember. I was at work, and my work city doesn’t always reflect my home city. I drove in weather that ranged from so severe I could barely see through the downpour, onto a stretch of road so bone dry it looked like a wasteland. And I only commute 26 miles. Last night, cold. Well, chilly. And damp. It’s a peculiar wet-type feeling that’s not exactly uncomfortable but raises the hair on your arms. Not tropical but not mountainous either. And it was foggy. Like, ghost foggy. Scoop it up in a cup foggy. Things that jump out of the dark foggy. Say, like, dinosaurs running out from the forest. (Movie plug! We saw Jurassic World late last night. It was good. If you like dinosaurs or even think you might, just GO. It’s not a waste of your money. End of plug.) Our weather is so accommodating, to give us that slightly scary, element of surprise and effect while driving home.  Then rain and thunderstorms predicted for morning, and all day long.

Actual wake up weather today: sunny and gorgeous. Like, perfect. It’s 80 degrees already. Blue sky, white fluffy clouds. Soft breeze. It’s ridiculous.

I’d love to have a point here, or a guide for predicting and planning for the weather, but it’s mostly just observation and a little ranting. Tonight we are going to a wedding. I have no idea what the outside will be like. That’s the beauty of my little corner of Illinois. We could go in hot and come out cold. It could rain. Or it might not. Glancing outside it looks like the weather is getting ready to shift right now. I mean, it has been a whole hour. I need to go get ready and stop this foolishness. Everyone stay safe and enjoy these days and nights as you can. Later.

Spring is Sprung. 61 on 61.

That would be 61 days since I posted last. That’s really bad. Does anyone but me even click on this site anymore? I seem to be my only audience these days and I am getting tired of looking at that blue sky picture. And so much has happened in those 61 days. And the 42 days before that. Time flies. Believe it. But of course I don’t have time right now to type it all.

Anyway, the other 61 is the the temp outside. Yep. Chicago. 61. March 31. It’s pretty nice. And it’s Easter! Happy Egg Day or Ham Day or Jesus Day. However each of you beautiful people celebrate. It’s Work Day for me. Not considered a “holiday” in the med world, at least not the med world I work in, but money is money. I’m just going to enjoy the weather on the drive to work and be grateful that low census was put on hold for the weekend.

My kids are in Kentucky as they usually are this time of year and the BF is just chilling at home, waiting for Tuesday (April 2) to creep around, and change his 39 year old ass into 40. Welcome to the dark side honey. Finally. It gets depressing being the only old lady around these parts. One of my CNA’s keeps reminding me that I am the same age as her mother. I’m like, could you please stop telling people that?? Anyway I am a bad GF because I have to work, and I did not plan a super surprise for this special start to the birthday journey that takes you onto the path of old age. And wisdom. Let’s not forget all the wisdom we get when we flip the big digits. He’s not complaining or anything, but I still feel bad. I did get him a present though. It’s been here for a week. AND it’s wrapped, and sitting on the kitchen table taunting him! I’m off tomorrow, so dinner and a present to open on your last day of being able to check the “under 30” box on documents and survey forms. I’ll get him with a surprise 41. They never see it coming!

But I need to go. Now. My uniform is dry and I need to shower. Here is a pic from my daughter that she sent from Kentucky where the air is actually colder. And it was raining. More posts to come. I hope. Later.

Well it’s not real original but…

June 9, 2011 at 9:30 am (Day to Day, Heat, Pictures, Weather) (, , , , , , )

YOWZA!! That’s HOT!  101.3 degrees F at 2PM on 6/7, here in the ChicagoLand area. That’s pretty high for us. In June. ZERO to 100, that’s how we roll out here. Wednesday was a little cooler (only got to 98 so no one cares too much about that) but today—Thursday, it’s back down to 65. And it’s storming again. Raining and flooding. The usual. I have to go to school now, so I’ll be outside breathing in all of that good pneumonia atmosphere. My chest is NEVER going to feel better.

Happy Fourth of July!! From Paris!!

Haha… I kid! I’m not in Paris. I’m in Chicago, where it is actually raining right now. I’m not sure if they still do fireworks in the rain??

The pictures are pretty funny though huh? They are actually from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum in Panama City, FL. It’s the Eiffel Tower made of matchsticks with a fireworks display as the background. I thought it would add that extra holiday flare to my usually outstanding posts! Don’t you agree?

Anyway, I’m off to my mom’s now to hang out in the rain with my family and wait for the small-town Tractor Parade and try not to die from the head/chest cold I picked up from the Taste of Chicago on Wednesday. Where, incidentally, it rained all day there too! I know I’m such a baby. Do you think that cold medicine and vodka would cure this thing?

See, if I had just gone to Vegas like I planned on Tuesday, I’d be getting home just about now, tanned, happy and NOT sick!

Happy Independence Day ya’ll!

It’s Wednesday, so it must be raining again.

May 13, 2009 at 2:28 pm (Day to Day) (, , , , , , , , , )

And it is! What a shock. They said 70’s with storms later in the day, but it has been raining since early morning. The only variation is how hard it’s raining at any one time. Ooh–Update! Thunder and lightning now!

Plus, I had to take my mom to the doc again, and it likes to rain on those days too. Chicago was doomed from dawn.

Mom is done. I am not running today. Only 3 more days to Run Wild. I’ll probably do another quick run tomorrow and hang it up for the week…It’s not like I’m going to get any faster. Watch the diet and avoid alcohol and I should be fine for Saturday morning!

Anyway, I’m home, sitting in the rainy-day-dark and getting ready to post my son’s story. He wrote me a story! It will be scanned and then translated for you to read. I just finished watching a Stevie Nicks mini-concert on the television so I can get back to work here.  Busy busy… She’s my favorite in case you were wondering…my daughter’s name might have been a clue, but you never know—depends on your age and musical persuasion.

Anyhow, Mason first, with the story.

Then Stevie, with my very favorite homework assignment she gets: Picture Dictionary!! It’s words and definitions that she has to draw pictures for. I think it’s cool and so creative. She thinks they’re terrible. Either way, they’re all scanned in and ready to go.

Music later. I have a good play list too—dedicated to my daughter’s hilarious friends…I’ll work it in somewhere.
