Late Summer Bug Out

Late July, early August. This is the time to be careful. Every day I step outside to see some new type of bug (or snake–HA) trying to give me a fright.

Not because they are soooo scary but because they surprise me with their quiet, non-moving, oddly, and sometimes ominously, colored presence in the places that I was the day before and they were not. And because of my schedule. I get to see day bugs, like that one above, and night bugs, which seem even bigger and buggier in the semi dark of my backyard.

I have to look up on the doors and walls and down on the ground. I keep thinking that my lost snake will return like a cat or a homing pigeon, back to stay with the family forever or exact its revenge for abandoning it to the wild. As a bonus, I usually get to be the first one to walk through the webs that our wolf spiders are always trying to build across the door frame.

Yuck yuck yuck. Three different kinds that I was able to get a picture of, not to mention the countless other spiders I don’t see. This moth (?) was just sitting on my flower pot while I dead headed.

Did not move or even try to fly away even when I was shaking the planter. Standing his ground. It knows that I am not going to touch it. I mean, look at it. Eeesh. I also have some kind of giant bee or wasp or something buzzing around my butterfly flowers in the front. I am not exaggerating when I say “giant” either. It’s bigger than the average bee/wasp. Probably, conservatively, 2-3 inches in length and with a wider body. It does not sit long enough yet for me to get its photo, but, you know, I will devote the rest of the season to trying. My son just moved some sticks from our small branch pile in the back, and uncovered a swarming bee’s nest. He got stung three times. Luckily he is not allergic and has been stung several times before in his young life. Both of my kids have. I think that might be kind of weird just by itself. Some people never get stung by bees. And yet my kids get stung practically every summer. Hmm. I don’t really have any more reflecting to do on that. Just throwing it out there because I mostly type what I am thinking.  The BF has planned an actual weekend for us. With a schedule and list of things to do and places to go. And I have one more day of work to get through before the fun begins. I may or may not get to post as we go. I plan on putting the actual list here if I can but I don’t want to jinx our plans so I may have to do it after and let you know what we did or didn’t do. Plus, I have to send it to the computer and download and blah blah blah. So here are a bunch of bugs to enjoy while I am gone. Have a nice creepy day.

FYI. Ending on a positive. This last bug is NOT a real bug. It’s a display from the zoo. But what if it was? Think about it. Later.

Since I Need To Post Something…

Why not make it the most disturbing picture I took all week. I call it: Baby Head In Corner. Third day, out of four, in a row, at work. Late nights. Saw this as I was leaving. Hesitated, but took the picture. Showed anyone I saw on the way out and everyone agreed it was creepy. Some even went to go see it for themselves, as if I would lie about its placement and location. It is kind of frightening if you stare at it too long.  And there is no logical reason why something like that would be where it was. It was gone the next day. Is there any lesson here? Or bigger message? Occasionally look down? Sometimes, don’t be afraid to peer into the corners? Ask why? Or at the very least, take a picture. For proof. Later.

Back of the Bench because I know you want to see it

October 31, 2011 at 12:14 pm (Big Benches, Exercise, Holiday) (, , , )

This is my favorite bench so far. I am pretty sure I haven’t put up even half of the bench pictures that I have in my files, but when I do, you will agree, this one is really cool.

I had to take a short 45 minute exercise break. Here’s a question…if an overweight middle aged lady collapses in her house all alone gasping for air, does she really make a sound?

Well I didn’t fall but I was making some unusual noises. Heavy footsteps, creaking limbs, pounding heart beats, throbbing head bangs, wheezing, moaning, and dry throated screaming. Not to mention the shaky limbs and dripping secretions. It really is like a haunted house over here. It’s a middle aged nightmare! Too bad it’s broad daylight and so damn sunny and temperate outside. Kind of takes away from the whole horror scene situation. Just makes it sad. It’s embarrassing how out of shape I am. Especially with all this free time I’ve been having. I should not be struggling to breathe and laying near the door with the phone half dialed to 9-1-1. Wait. I think I forgot to unlock the deadbolt. Crap. Death AND a broken door. Tricks on me. Boo.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Home all day edition!

October 31, 2011 at 10:06 am (Big Benches, Candy, Exercise, Holiday) (, , , , , )

Well, I seriously thought I would have a job by now! This stinks! BUT…I am still “being actively considered” (thank goodness for that at least) by several hospitals, so I guess I just have to wait. Now that’s a trick! Scary too. I have never been unemployed this long in my whole life! Anyhomeeverydayway….

I spend most of my time on the computer filling out apps, checking sites and reapplying where ever I can. It takes a long time believe it or not, and some of these hospitals have a really complicated application process. We should get points just for filling them out all the way to the end. After staring at the computer screen all day and trying to come up with new ways to write a cover letter or explain (beg) why I want this particular position, I am burnt out and not interested in posting about my failures.

But today is a brand new week. And a brand new month is about to strike. Besides tomorrow is the really scary day. All Saints Day. The spirits get restless and try to walk around. That’s the day to go hang out in the cemetery. Nothing like swirling demons and the undead to occupy your mind and time. Bring them some of that candy, light a candle, say a few words for peace and staying in the grave and carry on. If I’m up top it’s already a good day. So, anyway, I have pictures and other fun stuff like that, that I have been doing when I am not actually sitting on this hard ass bench desperately searching for a way out of my ever increasing depression! Cheery!

Obviously today is Halloween, so that means free candy! My kids are going to suck it up one more year and do the ho stroll for tricks and treats. So in addition to the exercise I am about to go do so I can eat all that candy without guilt, I will be getting additional exercise later walking around gathering more with the children. They are old enough to go on their own and I don’t think they’ll get kidnapped or sex offended but they like for me to go too. And since I have discovered the joy of walking around with a holiday “beverage”, I am happier, the trip is easier, and I stay warmer longer! Winning!

Well I have lots more pictures I will just throw up every few minutes or hours depending on what else I do today. The above picture is from the “Benches” collection that I gather over the summer. They did a special one for Halloween so I captured all the angles and the accompanying decorations in the surrounding area. I will post more in about an hour or so. I have to go do that cardio I was talking about or I can’t eat any more junk. And that would make me even sadder. And we can’t have that. No suicide attempts on Halloween! That sounds like a good book title! Or at least a good headline for my next post. Later.

Crete, Illinois. Stealth Bomber Fly-Over? Yeah, whatever Nascar.

July 13, 2009 at 6:38 pm (Day to Day, Pictures) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

So we are just hanging out in Crete, Illinois, on Saturday, late afternoon, playing some mini-golf and discussing dinner plans, when, from out of the west flies in a Stealth Bomber! The military fighter plane. What??

I know. So we are all excited, like, what the heck ??!! Why would the Stealth be way the hell over here, in the middle of nowhere, with no military bases and what-not around? Then here comes another one! And there it goes, pretty far off from us. Now, I’m just mad because we didn’t get a picture.

Well, cue Nascar, cause here come two more. I’m sure it was the same two, but now we are ready for their close-up. They flew directly over us. So we got a pretty good shot. It’s kind of small though…something’s wrong with the setting on the BF’s phone. We’re gonna have to fix that.

Mason is the one who put the Nascar spin on it. And it turns out, he was right. Apparently they do a fly-over along with the Blue Angels.

Crete is pretty far from Joliet, but I guess not too far for a turn around when you are flying a Stealth. After we got our pics, they were gone. So that’s below.

And here is a link that the BF found today on the internet with a Nascar notes blog. Check out Number 9.

And Mason, if you’re reading this, make sure you click and see who is out and taking pictures with the fans…not hiding in his trailer like a little girl. Hahaha. Number ONE in POINTS, baby!! Nothing else matters in the end. (XOXO, Mom)

We ain’t special, and we wasn’t been attacked by space aliens…it was just racing. Shucks.
