Find the New York Coffee Cup / Bringing Out The Dead

June 21, 2009 at 9:32 pm (Find The NY Coffee Cup, Movies, Video) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Nothing will keep you in the house for the entire weekend like a free preview of every movie station on cable television. It’s ridiculous. It’s 90 degrees outside and my butt has barely moved from the couch. I need to exercise. I need to do laundry. I need to study.

I’m going to do a separate post of all the movies I got to see these last few days and give some reviews, but this is the only one with the NY Coffee Cup. And I even found video. Thank you, You Tube!

This is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s one of the reasons I became an EMT. Check out the clips, but see the whole movie when you can. You will not be disappointed. It’s directed by Martin Scorsese. Nic Cage, John Goodman, Tom Sizemore, Ving Rhames, Patricia Arquette, and more are in it. And it has a killer soundtrack. SEE THIS MOVIE!

You have to keep the body going until the brain and heart recover enough to go on their own.

Here’s the first clip. Skip to the 6:10 mark and take a big drink.

And here it is again. At the 4:10 mark is the coffee cup cameos, but the whole clip is good. This should raise interest enough for the whole flick.

Butterfly Video. Birth. Adaptation. Flight.

June 17, 2009 at 1:14 pm (Butterflies, Caterpillars, Day to Day, Video) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

First up, as much as I could capture of the butterflies emerging. Excuse the jerky camera movement. I am not a professional. I was trying to get right in there!

This is our little gang fluttering around, flexing their wings. Again, some jerky movement and butterfly downtime. You can fast forward or watch it through. It’s actually somewhat soothing. I don’t know why.

And finally, the flight away from our temporary shelter. This whole process of emerging to flying took about 5 hours, approximately. This one is particularly long. Same bad camera work, but still really amazing. The real action is about at the  2:40 mark. It really is a cool thing to see.

In the end we still had two in the bin. Six in the world. And three still hanging.

I want to get away, I want to fly…away…

June 16, 2009 at 7:36 pm (Butterflies, Caterpillars, Day to Day, Video) (, , , , , , , , )

The first baby flew away. Literally. He took a long time to “dry”. But the cooler temps on Monday were most likely the problem. If you check the post below you’ll see some fun facts about butterflies and how they are able to fly.

Check out the video below. He flies away fast. But at least we had him for a whole day.

Video. Butterfly Goofing.

June 16, 2009 at 12:00 pm (Butterflies, Caterpillars, Day to Day, Pictures, Video) (, , , , , , , , , )

Sorry this is taking longer and longer. I couldn’t download from the camera, so I You-Tubed it and posted  from there. There are four videos total. I only included two for the sake of not boring you to death with butterfly downtime. It’s not like they move a lot.

It’s more like….sit…sit…sit…sit…MOVE!

Skip to the 1:00 minute mark (in the first clip) and you’ll avoid alot of the “sitting”.

Embarrassing!

June 3, 2009 at 3:58 pm (Video) (, , , , , , , )

I just saw this commercial and got all choked up! Ridiculous. I tried to stop it. I tried to look away. I told myself, “Every trick in the book is being used here to make me cry—candles, destroyed homes, grieving couples, survivors, victory, defeat, the elderly, babies, picture albums, memories, soldiers coming home, people helping people, children singing a very popular, inspirational anthem, perfectly tied-in tagline—ugh–the humanity!”

And I used to WORK in an ad agency. Pathetic! I guess it’s not as bad as the Kodak commercial that used to get me ALL the time. Check it below.

Cool Word of the Day! Spelling Bee Edition!

May 29, 2009 at 5:48 pm (Cool Words, Video) (, , , , , , , , , , )

This section here is lifted copy/paste from DListed/Michael K. (Thank you. Please don’t be mad. You are the smarmy, younger, alter ego brother I never…oh wait, I do have one of those already…but he’s straight! Rock On!)

13-year-old Kavya Shivashankar of Olathe, Kansas beat out 11 finalists for the title of the greatest speller who ever spelled (under the age 14) at the Scripps National Spelling Bee last night. Kavya won $40,000 in cash and prizes as well as a giant trophy/fruit bowl/dust collector. This was Kavya’s fourth time at the bee and it will also be her last, because of her age.

The word that won it for Kavya was laodicean.

End of DListed/Michael K Post Part. (Thank you again–I owe you a froo-froo drink!)

Now this is mine. In order to find the above word, I had to put away my Riverside Webster’s II Dictionary that I normally use for this and break out the big guns:

Random House Webster’s College Dictionary.

I never heard of the word, nobody I know ever heard of the word and I couldn’t spell it to save my life or my children’s lives. I did let my future french fry makers stay up late to watch the big finish though! As a bonus for the Spelling Bee people, I bet they taught half of America a new word last night! Yay TV! Stay in school!

Smart kids are awesome!

Laodicean (adjective)

Definition: Lukewarm or indifferent, especially in religion, as were the early Christians of Laodicea;  such a lukewarm or indifferent person.
